“CHRISTMAS IN THE AMERICAS” – ¡VIVA LA MÚSICA!

 New England Full Choir GrimaldiCONCORA (Connecticut Choral Artists) will present a concert of rich choral music from throughout North, Central, and South America on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. (with a snow date planned for Monday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m.)  The concert will be held in the beautiful sanctuary of Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue in Hartford. Tickets: Preferred seating: $45; General admission: $25; Students: $10. 2-for-1 general seating tickets are available to anyone holding a Let*s Go Arts!” card from the Greater Hartford Arts Council.       This celebration of Christmas will feature folk songs and carols from Mexico, Costa Rica, Columbia, Brazil, and Venezuela, with titles including Ya viene la vieja,  El Niño entre los bueyes, and Adorar al Niño. The United States will be well-represented on the program, with songs including the Appalachian Carol Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head, Carlisle Floyd’s Long, Long Ago for women’s voices, and inspiring arrangements of the African-American Spirituals Mary Borned a Baby and Go Tell It On the Mountain.  A Christmas Mass from Canada’s Healy Willan an audience sing-along with carols in both English and Spanish round out the concert.

      Asylum Hill Congregational Church is fully accessible. Braille and large-print copies of the concert program will be available.
