Director of Music/Choir Director and/or Organist for First Wayne Street United Methodist (Indiana)
First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, a cosmopolitan downtwon area, is seeking a Director of Music/Choir
Director and Organist. The ideal candidate will have strong musical training with a bachelor's degree or higher in music; leadership ability; personal spirituality and religious background; respect and appreciation for the United Methodist Church and its diversity.
The candidate for Director of Music/Choir Director should show evidence of success in administering a comprehensive church music program along with the ability to supervise a part-time staff of professional and amateur musicians. This person should also have experience directing a variety of ensembles (e.g., Sanctuary Choir, Praise Team, Hand bell Choir), be willing to work with the Pastor and Worship Committee in selecting appropriate service music, and have knowledge of contemporary and traditional choral music.
The candidate for the Organist position should be an accomplished organist responsible for providing music for informal, blended, and formal traditional services as well as special services (e.g., Christmas Eve, weddings and funerals) and be willing to work with the Pastor and Worship Committee in selecting appropriate service music.
First Wayne Street has a longstanding quality music tradition and supports several active music concert series. Sanctuary instruments include a 1974 Beckerath tracker organ, a new Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand piano, a Yamaha Clavinova and set of Yamaha Timpani.
