On Saturday, March 6, 2010 as part of Wales Weekend USA, DCINY presents a special, two-part program at NYC’s magnificent Carnegie Hall in association with the Welsh Assembly Government.  The program consists of two major works, which honor the country’s patron saint, Saint David (Dewi Sant), by internationally recognized Welsh composers, Karl Jenkins and Arwel Hughes.  For the highly anticipated March 6, 2010 Workshop, Jenkins will be in attendance as Composer-in-Residence, and Guest Conductor in a U.S. Premiere performance.

His Dewi Sant is a seven-movement piece, best known for the classical crossover series Adiemus, which intersperses movements reflecting the themes of David's last sermon with those drawing from three Psalms.

The second Dewi Sant on the program is by the late Welsh orchestral conductor and composer, Arwel Hughes, which was composed in 1950 and is considered an oratorio.  The performance will be under the direction of DCINY Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Maestro Jonathan Griffith, DMA.

Bass Professor of Conducting and Choral Music Education at Oklahoma City University, and Artistic Director of the Youth Choral Program of the Canterbury Choral Society.  Maestro Willoughby will be conducting Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem ("Give us peace") written in 1936, which is a “plea for peace” cantata, with textual references taken from the Mass, three poems by Walt Whitman, a political speech, and sections of the Bible. Fred Sjöberg (Sweden) - Romantic Music

Volker Hempfling (Germany) - Mozart: Mass in C minor

Among all the international choral festivals the Zimriya is outstanding not only in its geographical setting but also in its warm spirit and the refreshing musical program.

This is what makes it so attractive in the same way for amateur choirs as well as for Youth Choirs and choirs of high quality expectations. The fact that all participants live and work for 8 days together on the superb university campus of Mount Scopus, enjoying excellent food and having the local infrastructure for feasting, singing and dancing into the late night, makes it possible, that the participants get into contact with each other very fast.

The site of Mount Scopus is breath taking, just opposite and overlooking  the Temple Mountain of Old Jerusalem, on the other side overlooking the desert of Judea down to the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea.

The beautiful new concert hall of the campus, which hosts all the participants every evening, adds to the fact, that at the end all participants seem to leave the festival like a new family, deeply enriched by music and friendship.

The Zimriya is a must for every choir once in its life! (Michael Gohl, conductor, Switzerland)
