Tacosa High School Women's Choir
The Tascosa High School (THS) Women’s Choir is a select group of fifty-six young ladies who also sing in the 96-voice varsity mixed choir, Les Chanteurs. The Tascosa High School choral program consists of 240 students in five performing ensembles. The Women’s Choir is comprised of sophomore, junior, and senior students. Members are involved in a variety of other school activities including theater, band, orchestra, athletics, student council, and National Honor Society. The THS Women’s Choir has received superior ratings in UIL Choir Contest for many years. They were selected to perform for the 1995 Texas MEA Convention in San Antonio. A large percentage of the choir also participates in solo/ensemble competition and the Texas All-State Choir audition process at the district, region, and area levels.
Billy Talley has been choral director at Tascosa High School for twenty-five years. Talley earned a BME and an MM from West Texas State University in Canyon, where he was mentored by Hugh Sanders. Before coming to Tascosa, he taught at Dickinson High School and Pampa High School. His Tascosa High School choirs have performed for the Texas MEA Convention in 1991, 1995, and 2002. He has served in a number of capacities at the region and state levels, including Region Vocal Chair, Area Audition Chair, UIL Sightreading Committee, All-State Choir Section Leader, and TMEA Facilities Team. Talley currently serves as high school vice-president of TCDA. Three times he has been named Teacher of the Year at Tascosa High School. In 2003, a readers’ poll for the Amarillo Globe-News selected him as the city’s Outstanding Teacher. He was the founding director of the Amarillo Boychoir. He has been music director at St. Paul United Methodist Church for the past ten years. He is a member of Texas MEA, TCDA, ACDA, Texas MAA, and the Men of West Texas.
