American Choir Wins Silver Medal at the International Choir Festival in Preveza, Greece
The internationally acclaimed all girls choir from the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area, Partners in Praise Girls Choir, has won a silver medal in the International Choral Competition in Preveza, Greece on July 12, 2009. In addition to being the first American choir selected to participate in the competition, Partners in Praise Girls Choir also won an award for an Outstanding Rendition of a Song ("Amazing Grace"). Julia Fahey, Director of Partners in Praise, said "We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in this prestigious competition but to win both a Silver Medal and the additional award is really gratifying. The experience has been extraordinary and I am tremendously proud of the girls!" The Choir gave a variety of informal and formal concerts in Athens, Crete and many of the beautiful and amazing Greek Islands.
Having returned from their exceptional trip, Partners in Praise recently completed their new cd which will be released in Fall 2009. The tour through Greece has capped off its 15th year. In addition to hosting the PIP CHILDREN’S CHORAL FESTIVAL in May 2009, Partners in Praise also was selected to sing at the American Choral Directors Association meeting at St. Olaf College in Northfield. The Choir held a Bon Voyage Concert in June 2009 as well as a variety of other concerts during 2009. .
Partners in Praise Girls Choir is an internationally touring and highly acclaimed choir made up of 48 high school girls from across the Twin Cities, directed by Julia Fahey. The girls sing a variety of classic and contemporary songs as well as a number of culturally diverse songs that reflect the Choir’s exceptional talent and skill. This choir is in it’s 15th year and continues to inspire their audience. The amazingly talented group of young women has traveled extensively and appeared at the Tuscany, Italy International Choral Festival in 2007. Among the venues, the Choir sang in Rome, Sorrento as well as Montecantini, Italy. In 2008, the choir travelled to Oregon to sing in the Pacific International Children’s Choral Festival at the University of Oregon, thoroughly captivating the audience.
