Show Choir Ideas

I am a MS Choral Director who is considering starting a Show Choir. I have very little experience with Show Choirs and just wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to get started. I have some music that I can definitely use, however, I am thinking about the challenges of choreography and equipment?? I would greatly appreciate any information or suggestions that you may have!

Vanessa,

I am excited to hear that you want to start a show choir! As you embark on the new adventure I would encourage you to keep it simple and make it fit your situation. Remember that show choirs are choirs first and should be given the same attention to singing as given to a traditional choir. If you are able to, download the February 2006 Issue of the Choral Journal and read the article regarding Show Choirs. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Valerie Lippolt Mack has a lot of great resources for people interested in Show Choirs. She teaches at Butler County Community College in Kansas. Contact her. I'm certain she'll be able to point you in the right direction.
