ACDA Choral Radio Now Live!
ACDA Radio is now available from the Home Page of the American Choral Directors Association website. ACDA Radio is the result of an agreement reached between the American Choral Directors Association and Naxos Records, one of the largest recording labels in classical and formal art music. Naxos provides a subscription service for computer listening of the entire Naxos catalog, and as a result of the ACDA/Naxos agreement, Naxos is now providing free streaming of their choral-focused channels for all ACDA website users. The ACDA Radio menu appears on the left sidebar of ACDA's website. Four different listening selections are available. The following playlists and content description are now available live:
Choral (Secular & Sacred)-Choral monuments by Haydn, Mozart, Faure, Brahms, Verdi, Szymanowski, and many more.
Early Music-Masses, motets, and other sacred choral works by Palestrina, Tallis, Lassus, Obrecht, Hildegard of Bingen, songs of medieval pilgrims, and others.
English Choral Music-A treasury of great English choral works.
Baroque Choral & Vocal-Choral works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell, Lully, Charpentier, and others.
To begin listening, click on any one of the four links in the menu. A new window will appear, displaying a variety of information about the currently playing track, including composer, title, performers, conductor, and album art. Also displayed are links to download a digital recording from Naxos of the currently playing track or to order a copy on CD.
Scrolling the ACDA Radio window will display all of the tracks in the selected playlist. Similar to FM, AM, or Satellite radio, it is not possible to skip ahead to different tracks, nor can specific tracks be selected for play. However, unlike terrestrial radio, there are no disruptive commercial breaks or announcers, and the track information is always easily provided to take the guesswork out of finding the music heard.
ACDA is thrilled to offer this service to our users through the Naxos partnership, and we hope it will provide a wonderful opportunity to experience familiar, favorite, and unique sounds in the vast world of choral music.
If you have difficulties accessing ACDA Radio, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages is available from Naxos at http://naxosradio.com/FAQ.htm If this resource does not answer your questions, you may also contact the ACDA webmaster at reynolds@acda.org
