American Choral Directors Association Unveils New Logo

The American Choral Directors Association has released its new logo, which offers the name of the association through colors that connect with its past, a fresh font that reflects the forward looking posture of the 21st century association, and an iconic image that showcases the work of the membership.

In a statement released by Tim Sharp, Executive Director of ACDA, "Members of the American Choral Directors Association work daily to foster and promote quality choral music throughout the United States and the world. Our association is made up of inspired and dedicated choral directors, living and working as local artists-in-residence in communities, schools, faith communities, cities, towns, and counties throughout the country. In our effort to convey this image, we sought to create a logo that artistically reflected this identity."

The BowmanHolt creative firm worked with ACDA to create the new visual identity. According to firm executive Michelle Holt, "Branding is a very important facet of any organization's identity. It is, in essence, the effort put forth to tell any given audience what your organization does, represents, and why it exists, put into the most succinct and direct terms possible. It is important that this brand visually reflect the members of the group and its goals."

As ACDA worked with BowmanHolt to update and revitalize its logo, it was important to blend past reputation with the look and feel of a forward-thinking organization. BowmanHolt retained this equity by keeping the color combination that reflected the past by using ACDA's historic blue color, adding the 50th anniversary color of gold. The new, clean font, is traditional, but adds a timeless feature to the new look. Iconically, the new logo showcases the actual creative conducting work of the choral director. The new logo will be used on ACDA's website and throughout its publications. Permission to use the ACDA logo is granted to state and division chapterleaders for use in official ACDA publications, web sites, and conference/workshop marketing.
