Clear Creek High School Symphonic Chorale
The Clear Creek High School choir program enrolls 200 students into five choirs. The Symphonic Chorale, which is the premier ensemble, has performed at Texas MEA Conventions in 1980, 1994, 2004 and 2007. It has also performed at the 1995 and 2005 ACDA national conventions. This past year, the Symphonic Chorale gave an honor performance for the Texas Association of School Administrators Mid-Winter Conference. The Symphonic Chorale has been privileged to perform by invitation for services at the Crystal Cathedral in Los Angeles, California, and at the West Point Military Academy Chapel in New York. The ensemble has also performed twice for the University of Houston’s High School Invitational Concert. While the Symphonic Chorale performs a variety of repertoire, the primary focus is to educate students in periodic literature toward a greater understanding of stylistic performance practice.
Kyle Pullen and Sean Pullen graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1991. During their four years in high school, they enjoyed the experience of being in choir under their dad, Milton Pullen, who continues to be the most inspirational influence in their lives as choral musicians. After high school, they attended Texas Christian University, where they benefited from Ronald Shirey’s choral direction. They later graduated with honors from the University of Houston with BMEs in 1995 and MMs in conducting in 1996. While at the University of Houston, they gained training from Charles Hausmann and Betsy Cook Weber. During that period, the Pullens sang with the Houston Symphony Chorus, where they were privileged to sing under Robert Shaw. They continued their education at the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California, where they earned DMA degrees in conducting. While in California, they served on the voice faculty at Pepperdine University. In 1998, they moved back to League City, Texas, to assume teaching roles at Clear Creek High School.
