Countdown to the World's Biggest Choir Festival - 6th World Choir Games Shaoxing/China 2010
For the next year, a giant clock in downtown Shaoxing, China will be counting down to the start of the World Choir Games on 15 July 2010. INTERKULTUR president Günter Titsch and representatives of the city of Shaoxing started the countdown in the city centre at a special ceremony on 15 July 2009.
Yet again, thousands of singers and musicians from around the world are expected to attend the world's largest choral event, which will run from 15 July to 26 July 2010. As in previous years, the 6th World Choir Games will captivate choirs, conductors and choral experts around the globe and put the spotlight firmly on China. There, choirs will gather in peaceful competition for gold, silver and bronze medals under the motto "Singing together brings nations together“.
"We are sure that guests from all over the world will be enchanted by Shaoxing's charms“, said Günter Titsch at a press conference in Shaoxing on 15 July as he extended his compliments to the host city. Guests will have the opportunity to combine their visit to the WCG with a trip to the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, which is taking place at the same time.
At the press conference, attended also by the mayor of Shaoxing, Qian Jianmin, Titsch announced one of the highlights of the WCG: the "Day of the Choirs", which will take place on 21 July. The 4.3 million inhabitants of this 2,500 year-old city are already looking forward to welcoming their international choral guests.
In addition to the choir competitions in Shaoxing's excellent concert halls, there will also be encounter concerts in public squares and other venues in the Chinese metropolis, along with the usual programme of gala concerts and special shows. A logo specially designed by the city of Shaoxing features three song birds portrayed in traditional pictographic style. This portrayal of peaceful and harmonious bird song is also a call to sing at the 6th World Choir
