IFCM Global Music Projects - How to Get involved

As President Obama has urged us to “think globally,” Tim Sharp has asked us to take a look at IFCM, the International Federation for Choral Music (for which ACDA was one of the founders), and discover ways we can become involved. This month Michael J. Anderson, IFCM’s First Vice President, highlights some of its wonderful programs:

Part of the mission of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) is to help preserve choral traditions and cultural diversity around the worldwide, and be an advocate for the development of choral music as an art form.

•    Ninth World Symposium on Choral Music, 3-10 August, 2011, Puerto Madryn, Patagonia Argentina. The world’s best choirs, conductors, and lecturers come together for eight days of exchanging culture. For more information, write www.fundacioncic.org.

•    Conductors without Borders, A new IFCM initiative—sustainable development program reaching out to choral conductors who lack access to professional guidance and mentorship. For more information, write Christina Kühlewein, Program Coordinator, (ckuehlewein@ifcm.net).

•    World Youth Choir, international choir made up of approximately 80 voices, from age 17-26 or young, budding professional singers. This summer the choir will be in Ghent, Belgium from 8 July through 1 August with concert tours in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
