World Choir Games to use New Artistic Concept

The 6th World Choir Games from 15 to 26 July 2010 in Shaoxing, China, will feature a new artistic concept. For the first time, category winners will be determined in two separate competitions: The Champions and the Open Competition, as INTERKULTUR informed.

Competition choirs with international experience as well as lay choirs have the chance to perform and to be evaluated by an international jury in their respective level of proficiency with utmost transparency.

With "The Champions Competition" and "The Open Competition" the Artistic Committee and the World Choir Games Council are implementing suggestions of many choirs to create a competitive environment. In both competitions the respective winners will be determined.

INTERKULTUR president Günter Titsch emphasised in a statement: "This innovation offers every choir the chance to perform and put itself to the test in an appropriate competition." Qualified or delegated choirs with international experience that have been admitted by the Artistic Committee take part in the Champions Competition. In the Open Competition every choir that has applied can take part. The category winners will be determined by the international jury. Choirs awarded a gold diploma will qualifiy for the Champions Competition and competes with the choirs already appointed for bronze, silver or gold medals and for the title "World Choir Games Champion".

"This is the ideal way for choirs to gain competition experience for the first time," said Titsch as he thanks the choirs for their suggestions for enhancements of the world´s largest choir competition, the World Choir Games. "It is another milestone for the international choir movement that according to the choir olympic idea choirs can compete equally and peacefully within the worldwide network of singers."
