Director of Choral Activities. The Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University seeks a choral conductor for a full-time, continuing position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, starting August, 2010.
Position Description: The successful candidate will coordinate all aspects of the choral music program; direct University Choir and Chamber Singers; organize and execute on-and off-campus performances; teach courses in choral conducting, choral methods, and choral music education; supervise student teachers; and continue development of productive relationships with area schools and the artistic community. This position includes teaching and student recruitment. Ability to teach classes in a secondary area, such as studio or class voice, music theory, or music history is desirable.
Requirements: Applicants who have completed or are nearing completion of a doctoral degree are preferred; a master's degree is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of professional performing activity; superior interpersonal and conducting skills; and knowledge of languages, choral repertoire, and choral/vocal technique. Excellence in teaching and conducting at the college level is expected, and a record of successful teaching choral music in secondary public schools is desired. The university seeks candidates who will contribute effectively and collegially to a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population.
