Leipzig 2010 A Cappella Contest
Still 100 days left: The application period for the International a cappella Contest Leipzig 2010 has begun Besides a total prize money of 3.500 Euro for the first three prize-winners, the winning ensemble receives the Leipzig A CAPPELLA AWARD, it will perform together with established vocal groups at the final concert of the 11th Festival of Vocal Music A CAPPELLA on 22nd May 2010 in the Great Hall of the Gewandhaus Leipzig, and it will also be invited to give its own paid prize-winner’s concert within the A CAPPELLA Festival 2011. The competition performances will take place 20th and 21st May 2010 in the Mendelssohn-Hall of the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. A high-level, international jury will evaluate the entrant‘s technical and artistic performance as well as their stage presence. Following the competition all participants have the possibility to talk to the jury about their performance. Head of the jury will be Simon Carrington, founder member of the King’s Singers and professor of choral conducting at Yale University (USA). The current award-winner Ommm impressed the jury as well as the audience within the International A CAPPELLA Contest 2009 and convinced through their self-composed music, technical performance and excellent stage presence. The French ensemble will appear again in Leipzig during the A CAPPELLA Festival 2010: On 21st May 2010 they will give their prize-winner’s concert during which will also be held the award ceremony of 2010’s competition. The International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig will be held from 20th to 22nd May 2010 within the Festival of Vocal Music A CAPPELLA for the fourth time. Interested vocal ensembles from all over the world and all styles of music are welcome to apply for the participation until 15th February 2010. The average age of the participating groups should not exceed 28 years and the size of the ensemble must be within three to eight members. There are no restrictions in the style of music, the only condition is: The voice creates the sound!
