Honor Choirs and Technology Committee Unite for 2011 Application Process

Snail mail, CDs and cassettes have served their time well in the Honor Choir application process. We are proud to announce the online Honor Choir application as a collaborative effort between the Honor Choir and Technology Committees in conjunction with OpusEvent. OpusEvent also hosts online auditions for the MENC Honor Choirs and the All American Marching Band. Likewise, judging will no longer require being held up in a hotel room with CD and cassette players along with stacks of recordings and paperwork. It’s all paperless and on line. For many vocal teachers the thought of ‘garageband’ conjures up visuals of radical students and loud nonsense wafting down the street. How dare they have the ‘audacity’ to produce such noise? Oh, times and terminology have changed. Garageband is an Mp3 producing software for MAC users and Audacity is the same for PC users. Step-by-step videos were produced for you to view repeatedly in an effort to ease the technology curve. (And then again, when all else fails, ask one of your students to explain it!)

The online application has the same amount of support: Step-by-step videos on YouTube and Vimeo; as well as, slide show presentations and instruction sheets to make this Honor Choir process as friendly and efficient possible.

When you’ve exhausted all references and need extra assistance, the PANIC BUTTON is provided by the Technology Committee. Someone from the committee will contact you within 48 hours to answer your questions. 

Some very important information you need to know before you start:

1. You must be a current member of American Choral Directors Association

2. No student may apply for more than one choir

3. Please read the materials provided at www.acda.org/honor-choirs prior to beginning the process

4. We are here to assist you in any way to make this as smooth a process as possible

5. You can visit the site over and over until you are comfortable with the materials for submission and then complete the process. Think of this is a file cabinet for a couple of months getting fuller and fuller.

6. Deadline is October 1, 2010 – DON’T WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30 TO BEGIN – PLAN AHEAD!
