Hereford Prize Nominations Sought

The American Choral Directors Association is seeking nominations for the 2011 Julius Herford Dissertation Prize.  Each year the Julius Herford Prize Subcommittee of the Research and Publications Committee accepts nominations for the outstanding doctoral terminal research project in choral music.   Projects are eligible if they comprise the principal research component of the degree requirements, whether the institution defines the project as a “dissertation,” “document,” “thesis,” or “treatise,” etc.  Read the Complete Herefore Nomination Guiudelines.


North Central Division Kicks Off

The 2012 ACDA North Central Division Conference is running through Saturday (2/11) in Madison, Wisconsin.  This is the first of seven divisional conferences being offered by the American Choral Directors Association over the next five weeks.


Mary Hopper Wins National Election

The American Choral Directors Association is pleased to announce that Mary Hopper has been elected the national President-Elect Designate.  Mary will have a wide range of responsibilities along the presidential track and will assume the Presidency of the Association in July, 2015.

“It is an honor to be asked to serve ACDA in this way, and to have a part in continuing the tremendous work of our Association on behalf of the choral art,” said Mary.

Dr. Mary Hopper is professor of Choral Music and Conducting at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music (Wheaton, Illinois).  She has served as the President of the ACDA Central Division and her choirs have appeared on divisional and National ACDA Conferences. 


Graduate Credit Registration Open!

Those ACDA members who wish to earn graduate credit during one of the 2012 Divisional Conferences will now find all of the necessary forms and information available online.


ACDA Sells Lawton Building

The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) has sold its building and former National Headquarters in Lawton, Oklahoma, to the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Children's Event Successfully Launches Conference Season

ACDA has kicked off a busy season of conferences, beginning with a successful event in Denver.

According to the ACDA National Chair for Children's and Community Youth Choirs, Robyn Lana, "The retreat in Denver was a wonderful success, with over 180 colleagues attending from across the U.S.  The many clinicians provided a wealth of inspiration and information."

ACDA Joins Advocacy Efforts

Arts advocacy is EVERY conductor's business.

To that end the American Choral Directors Assoctaion is joined forces with other national music education associations as a part of The Music Education Policy Rounddtable hosted by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and has become a signatory to the policy statement "Arts Education: Creating Student Success in School, Work, and Life."

ACDA also has an Advocacy Statement that all conductors are encouraged to place in their printed concert programs.
