    Update, April 8, 2009

The day promises to be an exciting and informative one, culminating with a performance of the VT ACDA Children's Honor Choir directed by Sandra Doneski of Gordon College.

Featured during the day will be an "opening sing" of Mendelssohn's Behold, A Star From Jacob Shining conducted by Frank Whitcomb, and a reading of Vivaldi's Magnificat by Nathaniel Lew of St. Michael's College. Robert Duff of Dartmouth College will present two sessions, one on Developing Successful Rehearsals and another on Building The Choral Instrument.

There will be three interest sessions: Andrea Haulenbeek on Sacred Music In The Choral Classroom; Peter Amidon on Hospice Choirs; and Megan LaRose on Vocal Improvisation in the Choral Classroom.
Plans are in progress to feature performances by a college choir, a high school choir and a community chorus throughout the day. All this adds up to a very exciting event, and we hope to see a large group of musicians in attendance! Brochures will be arriving in the mail soon, complete with fees and application information. But plan ahead now and reserve Saturday, May 2 on your calendar!

If you have any questions prior to than, please contact Donna Costes, Frank Whitcomb or Dawn Willis for more information.

    Previous updates

New this year will be an opportunity for three performing choral ensembles to present a 15 minute performance during the conference. There will be a 10:15 AM slot, a 10:45 slot, and another at 2:00 PM. Additionally, each of the selected groups will have the option of performing at the culminating concert at 3:30 PM as a part of the ACDA Children's Honor Choir performance. (We have 9 directors participating with 55 participants in the Honors Choir.) All will be held in the beautiful St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. We are looking for choirs that might represent middle, high school, adult or college levels.
ACDA members are encouraged to submit an application for their choir to perform at the conference - the application process is very easy! Just fill out the application form and send it to Frank Whitcomb, Burlington High School, 52 Institute Road, Burlington, Vermont 05408. This application must be accompanied by a recording (CD would be the best format) of your choir showcasing their best work (2 or 3 selections). The deadline for submission is Wednesday, March 25, 2009 and notification of the three choirs selected to represent ACDA at our state conference will be April 1, 2009.
