The Composition Initiatives Standing Committee, in partnership with the Diversity Initiatives Standing Committee, awarded two, one-time Diverse Voices Collaborative Grant in 2019. They went to Andrea Clearfield, composer, in partnership with a consortium of choirs from Virginia and beyond including Radford University (Meredith Y. Bowen, conductor), and Brandon Waddles, composer, in partnership with SACRA/PROFANA (Juan Carlos Acosta, conductor). Each composer received $2,500 to be used toward the commissioning costs for their new works with their partner organizations. Learn more
The purpose of this commissioning project was to encourage partnerships between a composer from an underrepresented minority and choral organizations who premiere the pieces.
