Jaclyn Kottman Hittner

Jaclyn Kottman Hittner serves the mission of the Lawrence Community Girl Choir program as its artistic director and the teacher-conductor of its ensemble for adolescent treble changing voices. Informed by music education studies at Lawrence University (BM) and Boston University (MM), and having spent over a decade working with middle-level singers in public school and community choir settings, her research and advocacy focus on supporting adolescent estrogen-affected singers and pedagogical practices that empower them to healthily navigate this transformative period with confidence in their singing and themselves.

This session explores how choral educators can empower treble singers navigating the adolescent voice change. Through engaging with audio samples, singer reflections, and research from leading scholars, attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the characteristics of the estrogen-affected voice change. Learn proven rehearsal and programmatic strategies that can help guide students to sing through this developmental process with curiosity, persistence, and wonderment at their growth.
