Scope and Contents note
This collection documents the professional life of Charles C. Hirt. It contains materials from his school days at Occidental College and the University of Southern California, including his thesis and dissertation. It also contains materials from his teaching and directing career at the University of Southern California, including teaching materials, newspaper clippings and publicity, general correspondence and tribute letters, programs and photographs. This collection also documents Dr. Hirt’s book writing activities; his involvement with the Walt Disney Company and the Olympics, as well as a variety of festivals, clinics, workshops, and tours; and his active participation in the American Choral Director’s Association, in which he served as national president from 1970 to 1972. The collection also includes recordings used as part ofACDA’s Hirt Endowment Fund CD. Materials are largely textual. Other formats scattered
throughout the collection include photographs, microfilm, records, cassette tapes, and artifacts such as plaques.
