Bio: The National Chorus of Korea is Korea's first professional chorus, founded in 1973 in order to pursue professional and artistic choral music in Korea. It has become a leader of the choral art movement and played a pivotal role in the development of choral music. The performance level of the National Chorus of Korea is one of the best and stands alongside the world’s leading choir organizations. The organization has demonstrated its capabilities in Europe, USA, Japan, and China. Artistic Director Euijoong Yoon has been re-appointed to realize the artistic vision and musical mission of the National Chorus of Korea.
Ensemble Statement: The National Chorus of Korea has continued its unrivaled reputation as the best professional choral group in South Korea and the world, and in 2000, the group re-established itself as an independent art foundation organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Currently, the organization holds 5 regular concerts along with 60 planned performances, provincial performances, overseas performances, external appearances, public events, and more each year. The National Chorus of Korea has led the popularization and globalization of Korea’s choral music and dramatically developed its artistic level, and was the first to introduce the major choral music of famous composers that are now sung in Korea, including those of Handel, Bach, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Karl Orff. With a wide repertoire ranging from medieval to modern and creative music, the National Chorus of Korea brings new performances on stage each year and presents a new standard for choral music. In addition, the organization is also a leader in the development and circulation of new Korean choral music, the establishment of vocalization methods that express Korean characteristics and emotions, and the establishment of interpretations, all while greatly contributing to the development of choral music and expanding the foundation of choral music.
