An Introduction of Choral Literature by Eastern Asian Female Composers

Pingyi Song
The University of North Carolina, Greensboro

Session Abstract: This interest session presents a brief introduction of choral literature by female composers in Eastern Asian musical cultures, including Japan, Korea, and China. The presentation introduces the development of choral music in Eastern Asia, both in its traditional form and under the influence of the Western European musical style. Dedicated to recognizing significant and underrepresented composers, specifically Eastern Asian female composers and their choral masterpieces, the session aims to provide practical and valuable guidance for music educators and choral directors to study and program choral repertoire within this genre.
