Central to the celebration of the Choral Art: Past, Present, and Future is the professional training of experienced and emerging choral conductors and educators who change students’ lives every day through music. Great teaching inspires great music making. This interactive session will explore many of the topics that are taught in a college choral methods class in a fun, engaging, and light-hearted presentation style. Topics will include effective choral rehearsal techniques, stimulating student curiosity and learning, teaching for transfer, positive classroom management techniques, integrating musicianship training into the choral rehearsal, tips for being a good colleague and choral professional, performance assessment tips, and engaging techniques for warming up the choir while turning off the choral “autopilot.” Experienced conductors and teachers as well as the next generation of choral musicians will enjoy this practical session as a guide, or perhaps as a refresher, for concepts and techniques they never learned (or may have forgotten) during their choral training.
