How will this work?
The Election Steering Committee is composed of Robyn Hilger, ACDA Executive Director, Arreon Harley-Emerson, National Chair for the Diversity Initiatives Standing Committee, Paul Laprade, current IL-ACDA President, Laura Coster, IL-ACDA Immediate Past President, Lee Kesselman, IL-ACDA Past-President, and Mary Hopper, ACDA National and IL-ACDA Past President. Our charge has been to develop the new process and steward the election. The process started with an open call to all eligible IL-ACDA members to apply. We received three applications. The committee has decided to present all three applicants to the membership.
We will use Ranked Choice Voting to ensure that there is a clear choice even with multiple candidates presented. You will rank the candidates for #1 for your top choice, #2 for your second choice and #3 for your final choice. Want to know more about how Ranked Choice Voting works? USE THIS LINK and there’s a great video on the homepage. It’s pretty cool in circumstances like this so that we end up with a clear top choice from the membership. Using ranked choice voting, we can also declare the top two candidates which is important. See below.
You will elect the office of President-elect AND, in an early election, the office of President-elect designate. All three candidates have agreed to this format and to the terms of service. The Election Steering Committee believes this will provide a level of stability for Illinois in the coming years. Your top choice will serve as President-elect and your second choice will be named the President-elect designate.
