Connecting with the Chor-US: Building Ensemble through Social Emotional Learning
Session Abstract: Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a key strategy for promoting belonging in the choral ensemble. Choral leaders may implement tenets of SEL in their rehearsals by building community, cultivating awareness, and promoting emotional release through music-making. In this session, participants will partake in an SEL-informed choral lesson, examining the ways intentional use of SEL and its core components may impact ensemble and rehearsal. Following the lesson, participants will discuss SEL strategies for choirs. Choral directors will leave with an array of tools, activities, and experiences that will empower them to embrace SEL practices in any choral ensemble setting.
