André Thomas

This session (Friday at 1:30, repeated at 5:00) premiers a new video featuring Alice Parker and André Thomas. Hearing these two giants of our profession philosophize about spirituals is a joy and a revelation. Both believe passionately that spirituals belong to everyone as a unique “avenue of soul expression.” In this conversation, they discuss origins, authenticity, performance practice, vocal color, the oral tradition, and more. As they compare their rich experiences, they bring both insight and humor to a probing analysis of this unique and important genre of song. (Eileen Guenther and William Bradley Roberts, producers. Produced by Pendragwn Productions. Sponsored by Melodious Accord.)
