Tenor-Bass Choirs

Baraka na Wewe by Victor Johnson

TB; View Score

Gretchen Harrison Recommendation: This a cappella piece seems perfect for a TB choir. The percussion part helps drive the piece forward. Lines are layered and allow for an easy teaching/learning opportunity. It would be a great processional, too.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel; arr. by Tehillah Alphonso

TTBB A Cappella (also available 4-part); View Score

Rob Dietz Recommendation: A great arrangement for TTBB ensembles that want to explore elements of pop, gospel, and jazz.

Glory (from Selma) by John Stephens, Lonnie Lynn & Che Smith; arr. by Eugene Rogers

TTBB divisi, Solo and Piano; View Score

Dustin Cates Recommendation

He Never Failed Me Yet by Robert Ray; adaptation by Keith Christopher

TTBB (also available SATB,SSA); View Score

Dustin Cates Recommendation

Salaam (Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu) by Mosh Ben Ari; arr. by Ross Fishman

TBB; Piano w/ optional djembe; View Score

Jennaya Robison Recommendation: New work (published 2023) for TTB choir, this Israeli Song for peace includes both the Arabic and Hebrew texts translated as “peace will come upon us, yet.” Ranges are accessible and accompaniment (piano and djembe) add to the joyful, pop-like feel of the work.

She Walks in Beauty by Laura Farnell

TB w/ piano; View Score

Clinton Hardy Recommendation: I absolutely love this piece for the winter time and/or for contest. This piece has a great range for two part, tenor-bass choirs, and there are not many difficult skips in this piece. I appreciate the way that Laura Farnell writes for TB choir. She keeps the range and melodic lines in mind for true middle school-junior high singers.

The River by Susan LaBarr; Text by Bill Cairns

TTBB w/ piano; optional guitar & percussion; View Score

Dustin Cates Recommendation

The Song We Sing by Jacob Narverud

TTBB a cappella; View Score

Dustin Cates Recommendation

The Warrior by J. Reese Norris

TTB w/ thunder sheet, percussion, spoken dialogue; View Score

Nathan Dame Recommendation: Awesome selection for intermediate tenor bass.

Advancing Choirs

Alleluia by Elaine Hagenberg; Text by Saint Augustine

SATB a cappella; View Score

Damion Womack Recommendation

Hodie! (This Day, 2nd Edition) by Z. Randall Stroope

SATB opt. Treble Choir; View Score

Matt Hill Recommendation: This multi-movement Advent work for SATB choir with brass octet, percussion, timpani, and organ can serve as the cornerstone of a church or community choir performance. An optional children’s choir section is a lovely addition, but can be sung by a small group of adult trebles if necessary. Re-released with new material in 2022, this work is a must-do for community organizations looking for an ‘anchor’ to a holiday program.

Moonlight and Rain by Kevin a. Memley

SATB w/ optional Violin; View Score

Nathan Dame Recommendation: Gorgeous selection with logical part writing and violin

Pure Imagination by Anthony Newley & Leslie Bricusse; arr. by Matthew Nielsen

SATB; View Score

Damion Womack Recommendation

Sogno di Volare (from “Civilization VI”-2016 Edition) by Christopher Tin

SSATBB,SSATBB; View Score

Caron Daley Recommendation: From the soundtrack for Civilization VI, this piece is a great opportunity to explore video game music with your choir. Christopher Tin is a master of this genre, and this selection comes from his major work, “To Shiver the Sky”.

Veni Sancte Spiritus by Zanaida Robles

Mixed Choir; View Score

Jennaya Robison Recommendation: Piece is described: “harmonic treatment and syncopation are derived from popular music styles (rock, pop, etc.). The compound meter, intricate piano lines, and choral voicings are elements that anchor the piece firmly in the classical choral tradition.” Includes both Latin text and English. Suitable for use in sacred contexts or for advancing choirs. Some division of SATB at the end of the piece.

Wild Forces by Jake Runestad

SATB; View Score

Damion Womack Recommendation
